Constipation is just one of the many parasites symptoms. Many of us do not recognize the signs and symptoms of a parasite infection because they can occur weeks or even years after the initial infection, and because a parasitic infection often mimics other similar conditions.
Signs and Symptoms: Parasites can live within the intestines for years without causing any symptoms. When they do, symptoms include the following:
Probiotics: There is some preliminary evidence that probiotic supplements may improve constipation. For example, one study looked at the effect of a probiotic beverage containing a strain of beneficial bacteria called Lactobacillus casei Shirota (65 milliliters a day) or a placebo in people with chronic constipation. The probiotic drink resulted in significant improvement in severity of constipation and stool consistency.
Herbs: Herbs are generally a safe way to strengthen and tone the body's systems. As with any therapy, you should work with your health care provider to diagnose your problem before starting any treatment. You may use herbs as dried extracts (capsules, powders, teas), glycerites (glycerine extracts), or tinctures (alcohol extracts). People with a history of alcoholism should not take tinctures. Many of the herbs used to treat intestinal parasites have toxic side effects or interfere with other medications. Use them only under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Your health care provider should treat you with the gentlest herb that is effective for the type of parasite you have.
Fiber: Fiber in natural form, whether that is in an apple, cabbage, or ground flax seed mixed into foods will ease constipation. Some of the natural remedies bringing more rapid relief are senna, cascara, aloe, rhubarb, and fennel seeds. Some recommend lemon juice and water, while some use milk and honey concoctions or mineral oil. All of these additional supplements either add fiber to your digestive system or gently work to increase the muscle activity of the colon.
Apart from these, drinking plenty of water is important, especially when your diet has increased fiber as it can have the opposite effect and make you even more constipated. Also, make sure to consult your doctor before trying out any remedy.
